AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX mobile APU in Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE exceeds 4.7 GHz and outperforms Intel Core i7-10700K desktop chip in Geekbench

An AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX mobile APU has been spotted inside an Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE laptop churning out some impressive Geekbench results. In fact, the Ryzen 9 5900HX can even outsprint a powerful desktop rival in the form of the Intel Core i7-10700K. The Cezanne Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 processor reached a clock rate of 4.74 GHz.

It seems history could repeat itself with the upcoming Ryzen 5000 family of mobile APUs from AMD. When the Renoir Ryzen 4000 chips were released, their frequent impressive results on numerous benchmarks led to praise being heaped on them, and it appears likely the same thing will happen with the Lucienne (Zen 2)/Cezanne (Zen 3) series that is incoming. Once again, the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX has been tracked on Geekbench, offering up results that will have future laptop buyers champing at the bit to get hold of a device that features this chip.

At the start of the month we reported about a Ryzen 9 5900HX that was seen on Geekbench 5.3 racing at 4.59 GHz and producing a mighty single-core result of 1,423 points but a muted multi-core result of 6,912 points. Well it seems things have been properly tweaked, as Tum Apisak has found an Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE (GX551QS) machine soaring at 4.74 GHz and coughing up a still great single-core score of 1,547 points and a huge multi-core score of 9,069 points (+31.2% improvement). The 8-core, 16-thread part from AMD is expected to have a typical TDP for a high-performance mobile processor.

The Ryzen 9 5900HX’s results have been compared with those of the Comet Lake Intel Core i7-10700K, which also has 8 cores and 16 threads but comes with a power-hungry TDP of 125 W and a maximum boost clock of 5.1 GHz. In our tests with the Intel part, the maximum scores for Geekbench 5.3 were 1,376 points and 8,939 points, respectively. There is a similar picture painted across Geekbench records (obviously with some outliers) that shows just how impressive the Cezanne Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 APU really is. With some speculation that the “X” in the processor’s name could indicate overclocking capability, the Ryzen 9 5900HX could be an enthusiast’s dream come true.
