Rumored GeForce RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 specifcations are out

These are jest rumours that are published on social media and on websites I jest summurised all those to bring the most relavent answer

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090/3080Ti/3080

We tend to avoid such rumors for a good reason, there is no way (other than calling Jensen himself) to confirm if the rumored specifications are actually real. It is simply too early and based on the most recent information we have, the cards have not even entered a mass-production yet.

What’s more, NVIDIA tends to change the specs at the very last minute. The naming is also hard to confirm because that changes too. A good example of such last-minute change was GeForce GTX 880. We even heard that AIBs had packaging ready for this new graphics card, but it was renamed by NVIDIA to GTX 980 just two weeks prior to launch.

Recently (in a span of 3 weeks) two leakers have shared very similar specifications for the upcoming RTX 30 series. It is worth noting that Kopite7kimi correctly predicted A100 Tensor Core GPU specifications months ahead of the launch.

RTX 3090 or 3080 Ti

The new rumor again puts GeForce RTX 3090 where we would have expected RTX 3080 Ti to be. We are not sure why would NVIDIA change the naming for its higher-end model, it just doesn’t make much sense considering x90 series were always dual-GPU. In the latest tweet, however, KatCorgi does not name Ampere-based TITAN, it is simply referred to as ‘2nd Gen Titan’. If this product name is not confirmed, then there is no reason to expect RTX 3090 to be final.

TITAN RTX Ampere

The rumors suggest that the next-gen TITAN would have 5376 CUDA cores and 24 GB of memory. Neither of the two tweets provides information on whether the TITAN is based on GDDR6 or GDDR6X memory. It is worth noting that no memory manufacturer has yet confirmed that such a variant of the GDDR6 has entered production. This was not the case with GDDR6, which was advertised long before the Turing launch.

RTX 3080 10GB memory

Yes, the next-generation GeForce 3080 based on Ampere architecture will have more memory. This is expected and based on the architecture upgrade path. Both Maxwell and Pascal saw a 2X memory upgrade. For Turing NVIDIA decided to only upgrade the technology to GDDR6. For a 2020 high-end product, we expect more than 8GB of memory.

According to the latest rumors, RTX 3080 would sport 10 GB memory. Unless there is some trickery in place, the card should have a 320-bit memory bus. But the most surprising part is the fact that the x080 part would be equipped with the ‘Big GPU’. This has not been the case since Kepler. The last graphics card to have such a GPU was GTX 780 Ti.

We will refrain from commenting on the memory speed right now. There is no information backing the 21 Gbps rumor and the 17 Gbps memory also seems rather unusual. We expect next-generation Ampere to feature at least 18 Gbps memory chips though.

We will be looking at the latest rumors and provide an update if any of these have been proven true or false, stay tuned
